Summer 2005 Travels

At the end of June, we took off for our grand tour of the midwest. We had several stops planned and enjoyed each as you will see. Along the way we were able to visit with our family and friends.

The Land of Lincoln--Springfield, Illinois

Our first stop was at the newly opened Lincoln Museum and Library. Here we are with the Lincolns. If you look closely in the back left of the picture you can see Mr. Booth lurking.

A replica of Mr. Lincoln's Kentucky cabin is constructed inside the very interactive museum.

Mr. Lincoln liked reading and the shortage of light did not stop him.

Several guests at the White House

Lincoln's home when he lived in Springfield

Lincoln's Tomb

Inside the tomb is his coffin and his wife and three sons are buried inside the wall directly opposite him. His son Robert is buried in Arlington Cemetery in Virginia.

Lincoln was housed here until his final resting place was ready.

On to Missouri and the 80th Birthday Celebration for George and Mary Lou Davis--Bruce's folks. Everyone converged in Branson and we took advantage of arriving early to do some touring. Most of us stayed at Treasure Lake Resort where Doug and Sue are members.

For a quick tour of the area and a lot of laughs along the way--Ride the Ducks!

Every child of the 1950's spent some time with Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. The museum is operated by their son.

This character looks the part for one of the shows!

Starting the 80th celebration off right!

Ready to board the Branson Belle for dinner and a show.

What's a cruise without the official photo?

Showing off the first of many gifts

People came from eleven states to help George and Mary Lou celebrate their 80th birthdays.

Nieces, nephews and cousins abound...

Family members and proud grandmothers, grandchildren and dear friends

The Main Event was a dinner held in George and MaryLou's honor at the College of the Ozarks just outside Branson.

A cake fitting for a couple of Texas RVers

Since so many had travelled so far we kept the party going with a picnic the next day.

Despite a wonderful time we did have to leave and move on to Little Rock to tour the Clinton Presidential Museum and Library.
